Hometown Shoutout: { Ball City }

Pottery Barn Mag
Canning jars... they just never seemed like a big deal to me. This fashion trend and love of mason jars fascinates me. I grew up Muncie, Indiana where Ball Jars were manufactured for several years.

When the Ball family brought their business to the Midwest, they had brought life to Muncie, Indiana. They built beautiful homes on the white river, created jobs, named a state college (Ball State) and a local hospital (Ball Memorial)... it's anyone's guess why it was never named Ball City!

Eventually Ball Corp moved to Colorado and took business and family friends with them. It was sad to see them, the business, and even some of our friends go. After the business moved away, I started to piece together the love of Ball jars. When I'd see a Ball jar or hear someone talking about them, I would tell the story and history of Muncie and the Ball brothers.

Now that I have moved away too, I appreciate all things home, even the simple canning jar!

  2. Hi there:

    I just found your blog and it's charming and your home is lovely. Your excitement of purchasing your first home reminds me of my own excitement, many, many, MANY years ago of the prospect of my own first home. I'm becoming a "follower" so I can watch all the progress you make. Come on over and visit me sometime as I am now onto my fourth home!
